
I believe the best art does the same. You can be technically good. You can paint a flower. You can paint a dog. However your art must emote energy that provokes strong emotions for the onlooker. Is the flower stunning due to the scintillation of colour? Have you captured a moment with the dog that you have painted? It is that which creates the art. Has your art intrigued someone to think?
If you have onlookers who strongly dislike the subject of your artwork, YOU HAVE A HIT! When you have strong dislike, you then have the opposite; people who will LOVE it. You are creating the conversation. Again, as in any business, beige is boring. I like to say. Be BOLD! ...with your subject, with the strokes of the paint brush, with the composition, with the presentation and so forth.
